Ali Haider Zaidi of the PTI has been detained in Karachi, according to the party.

KARACHI — Sindh police detained Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh president Ali Haider Zaidi at the party’s provincial secretariat in Karachi on Saturday, according to the PTI.

According to sources, Mr Zaidi was taken to an undisclosed location after his detention. “He was arrested in connection with the case filed against him at the Ibrahim Haidri police station a day ago,” sources stated.

Mr Zaidi was detained by the Malir investigation and operations team in connection with an alleged Rs17 billion scam.

Haleem Adil Sheikh, the opposition leader in Sindh Assembly, sought Mr Zaidi’s release, adding, “The police have arrested Mr Zaidi from the party’s secretariat without any arrest warrants.”

He said that the fascist-installed administration was persecuting the PTI.

The PTI’s social media account posted a video of the arrest, which showed “how police broke into the secretariat to arrest Mr Zaidi.”
