Bombs burst on minibuses in Kabul, Afghanistan, killing at least nine people

Authorities announced on Thursday that at least nine people were killed in two bomb blasts on different minibuses in Mazar-i-Sharif, a week after a deadly explosion rocked a Shiite mosque in the northern Afghan city.

The incidence of violent public assaults has lessened since the Taliban retook authority in August, but the Sunni Islamic State organisation has continued to target Shiites, whom they consider heretics.

The explosives exploded within minutes of one other in several sections of Mazar-i-Sharif, according to Balkh provincial police spokesperson Asif Waziri, as commuters were heading home to break their dawn to dark Ramadan fast.
