ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: Due to the Shawwal moon’s sighting in Pakistan, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee said on Tuesday that Eidul Fitr will fall on Monday, March 31.
While zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committee meetings were held concurrently at their respective headquarters, the announcement followed a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Islamabad.
In a news conference following the meeting, Maulana Azad stated that testimony of moon sightings had been received from the majority of the country, and hence Eid will be celebrated tomorrow (Monday). He stated that the sky was fairly clear in most areas, allowing the moon to be plainly seen. He verified getting valid moon-sighting reports from several cities, including Lahore, Bahawalpur, Islamabad, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and others.
Maulana Azad stated that the committee has certified Shawwal-ul-Mukarram to be the first of its kind.
The announcement was welcomed with delight and celebration around the country as people prepared to commemorate the festival, which marks the end of a month of fasting, prayer, and meditation.
