North Korea launched three ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan early Wednesday, according to Seoul’s military, barely one day after US Vice President Joe Biden concluded his first trip to Asia as president.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea claimed in a statement that it had “detected the firings of ballistic missiles launched from the Sunan area at around 0600 (2100 GMT), 0637, and 0642.”
The Japanese coastguard issued a warning about a “potential ballistic missile” launch from North Korea, advising ships to avoid falling items in the ocean.
Tokyo is attempting to confirm facts regarding the launch, according to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
