MQM-P boycotts by-elections to the National Assembly

KARACHI – The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) resolved on Sunday not to contest the National Assembly (NA) by-elections due to be conducted on 33 NA seats vacated after NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf accepted resignations given by PTI MNAs.

During a party meeting presided over by Nasreen Jalil, the decision was made in light of the country’s current economic crisis.

Previously, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had asked the MQM-P not to run in the by-elections. The PML-N and PPP candidates have already withdrew their candidature papers for the elections. On the other side, PTI head Imran Khan has stated that he would not run in the elections due to concerns over his disqualification in the Tyrian White case.
