ISLAMABAD:- An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday dismissed terrorist charges against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan in connection with the assault on Parliament and Pakistan Television (PTV).
Rana Jawad Abbas, an ATC judge, heard the appeal to dismiss the terrorist accusations in the case. On Mr Khan’s behalf, Naeem Haider Panjutha and Advocate Intizar Hussain Panjutha submitted a petition.
After the announcement of the judgement, the court sent the matter to a sessions court.
Previously, Mr Khan had contested the ATC’s jurisdiction in the case and asked the court to transfer the matter to a more appropriate court, claiming that the PTI had staged a peaceful demonstration and that terrorism charges had been lodged against the party’s leadership. On the other hand, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had already ordered to hear a federal government petition challenging Mr Khan’s and other PTI officials’ acquittal in the Parliament assault case on January 9.
