ISLAMABAD : – The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) banned the transmission of speeches, lectures, or public addresses by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supremo Imran Khan on Sunday.
The authorities announced its decision in a notice, stating that Khan’s utterances are continually packed with unfounded claims and hate speech directed against state institutions and officials.
According to the regulating agency, such statements are detrimental to preserving law and order and are liable to disrupt peace and serenity.
Pemra has mandated that no PTI chief comments, speeches, or discussions, whether recorded or live, or press conferences, be shown on satellite television networks.
Section 27 of the Pemra Law 2002 governs the regulator’s decision to prohibit the transmission of Imran’s statements. “Airing of unsubstantiated claims, hostile, slanderous, and unjustified statements against state institutions and personnel are blatant violations of Article 19 of the Constitution,” it said.
