China names Wang Yi as its next foreign minister, succeeding the missing Qin Gang.

BEIJING (Reuters) – China chose Wang Yi as its new foreign minister on Tuesday, replacing Qin Gang, who resigned after a one-month absence, according to official media.

Qin, 57, who became one of China’s youngest foreign ministers in December after serving as an envoy to the United States, has not been seen in public since June 25.

His ministry then stated that he was out of work for undisclosed health reasons, but the absence of specifics fueled conjecture.
