BAJAUR (Today News) – On Sunday, a suicide bomber targeted the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) workers’ convention in Bajaur’s Khar district, leaving at least 40 people dead and 80 injured.
JUI-F Maulana Ziaullah Jan, the head of Khar Tehsil, died in the assault as well. More than 80 injured people had been taken to the Bajaur District Headquarters Hospital, according to Bajaur District Health Officer Faisal Kamal, while those who were in severe condition were sent to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) in Peshawar.
Hospitals in Bajaur and the surrounding districts, he claimed, had been placed on high alert. “We are utilizing helicopters to transport critical patients to Peshawar and other hospitals.”
Two army helicopters had been despatched to Bajaur, according to KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali, for the transport of injured persons. Two army helicopters have flown 12 badly injured people to Peshawar so far.
At the time of the explosion, MNA Jamaluddin and former senator Abdur Rasheed were also in attendance at the JUI-F workers’ convention.
Following the explosion, Jamaluddin was unharmed, according to JUI-F provincial spokesperson Jalil Jan.
