BANGKOK:According to authorities, at least nine people were killed and more than 100 were injured when firecrackers stored in a warehouse exploded in southern Thailand on Saturday.
According to Narathiwat’s governor, Sanan Phongaksorn, the firecrackers detonated and started a fire at the unlicensed warehouse at the Muno market in Su-ngai Kolok district in the southern province of Narathiwat, which borders Malaysia.
“There have been nine deaths so far, but there could be more as unidentified human remains have been discovered,” he stated.
According to Sanan, around 115 individuals were hurt and sent to the hospital, with 106 of them returning home.
The explosion destroyed more than 200 dwellings near the warehouse, impacting 365 people, with 20 to 30 families sleeping at a shelter, according to Sanan.
“The fire is under control, and police will conduct a thorough investigation into the cause,” he added.
