Kangana Ranaut has expressed her disgust with Karan Johar’s new romantic comedy, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, in a stinging assessment. The film, featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, has drawn strong criticism from the Queen actress, who accused the director of “regressing Indian cinema.”
Kangana said on Instagram Stories on Saturday that films that “lack creativity” and rely on “over-the-top sets and costumes” no longer mislead the audience. The Simran actor was also taken aback by the film’s expensive budget of INR2.5 billion, questioning why such large sums were committed on what she refers to as “stupidity,” when true talent struggles to find funding for worthwhile projects.
“The audience can no longer be duped.” They have rejected awful and creatively weak films with phony sets and outlandish phony costumes. Who dresses like this in real life, and where can you get ugly mansions like the ones in Delhi? “What nonsense!” she said.
“Shame on Karan Johar for ripping off his own vintage films from the 1990s.” Also, how did he spend INR 2.5 billion on this nonsense? “Who gives them this kind of money when real talent is struggling to find funding?” she asks.
However, Kangana’s displeasure did not end there. The actor also highlighted parallels between Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which dives into nuclear physicist J Robert Oppenheimer’s complicated biography. She emphasized the significant contrast in the audience’s reactions.
