The Punjab administration has reversed a recent fare increase for double-decker buses, as directed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The decision follows public outrage over the price hike for the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab’s “Sight-Seeing” bus service in Lahore.
According to Express News, bus rates have been hiked by 200 to 500 rupees for normal routes and 5,000 to 20,000 rupees for corporate, educational, and commercial operations.
The fare increase was enacted by TDCP, but the government quickly proceeded to rescind it.
Maryam Nawaz voiced her dissatisfaction with the fee rises, particularly for buses running on three major routes in Lahore.
In response, she instructed the appropriate authorities to reverse the raise and reinstate the former fee structure.
In a statement, the Chief Minister emphasized that the double-decker bus service was created to encourage tourism in Lahore, and that raising tickets would impose an undue burden on the public.
“We are committed to providing the best recreational facilities to the public at minimal charges, and we will continue to do so,” she told the group.
Her participation resulted in the reinstatement of the service’s original fares.
The decision is viewed as a step to guarantee that the service stays available to the public while also encouraging tourism in the city.
