The government will not hold a referendum if Sweden’s parliament decides to pursue a NATO membership application, according to Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson.

Both Sweden and Finland have been forced to reexamine long-held beliefs that maintaining military neutrality is the best way to protect national security, and both countries are expected to make a decision in the coming weeks.

According to Andersson, a referendum is a “bad idea.”
