Hearings on a Presidential Reference for the interpretation of Article 63(A) of the Pakistan Constitution on disqualification of elected MPs and its relevance to dissident legislators of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have been postponed till Monday, according to the Supreme Court of Pakistan (PTI).
During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umer Ataa Bandial quoted the Holy Quran and declared that those who betray trust will be severely punished. The CJP went on to clarify that betraying trust is referred to as dishonesty. Is it necessary for a member to sign a statement committing to observe the party’s rules? asked the CJP.
Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail inquired if any PTI members have expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Imran Khan.
While no member has yet departed from the party line, the government has filed a referral ahead of time, according to Justice Mazhar Alam. How is it possible to condemn a person even before he commits a crime, Justice Mazhar Alam asked?
