North Korea is planning a nuclear test, according to Seoul and Washington, with the US warning that it might happen during President Joe Biden’s visit to South Korea this week.
Biden’s first trip to Asia as president, billed as proof of the US “pivot” to Asia, appears to be eclipsed by an increasingly aggressive North Korea intent on performing a new “provocation.”
Pyongyang’s “preparations for a nuclear test have been completed and they are simply waiting for the perfect time,” South Korean lawmaker Ha Tae-keung claimed after being told by Seoul’s spy agency, despite a spiralling Covid epidemic.
