ISLAMABAD (Today News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, the emir of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), and asked that the party postpone its march for a few days in order to have discussions on the petroleum levy.

According to the facts, the prime minister promised Hafiz Naeem that he would see him when he returned from New York and offer a relief package for the people. He also stated that he was prepared for a genuine conversation with the JI on the petroleum levy.

However, Hafiz Naeem stated that the JI would not abandon its protest until the fuel levy was eliminated.

Hafiz Naeem declared, “We will continue the struggle and will not give up the protest until the levy is abolished.”

The JI has been demonstrating against the charge for the previous 1.5 months, he continued.

The JI emir stated that he will discuss whether to take a few-day respite during the lengthy march with the party leadership.

Hafiz Naeem spoke at a gathering in Multan after the JI’s rail march against the petroleum tax arrived.

He said that the petroleum charge was inappropriate in any situation and that the people should be released from what he called a “extortion tax” on gasoline.

The JI has been continuing its nationwide protest movement and advocating for the removal of the fuel levy.
