(Web Desk) AHMEDABAD – On Sunday, Australia defeated India in the World Cup 2023 final to claim the trophy for the sixth time at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Aussies won $4 million in addition to the glitzy trophy. The runners-up, India, won US$2 million, while the losing semi-finalists each received $800,000 from the total prize pool of US$10 million.

The trophy was handed to the Australian skipper by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Australians raised the cup and celebrated their victory in grand manner.
“I mean, the result hasn’t gone our way, and we know that we weren’t good enough on the day,” Indian captain Rohit Sharma said during the prize-distribution ceremony. However, I am proud of the squad. It wasn’t intended to be that way. Honestly, 20-30 runs would have sufficed. I believed we were looking at 270-280 when KL and Virat were batting, but we kept losing wickets. After losing three wickets, Australia built up a significant partnership. We needed early wickets with 240 on the board, but credit to Travis Head and Marnus. They thoroughly eliminated us from the game, and I believed the wicket improved for batting under lights.
“I think we saved our best for last,” said winning captain Pat Cummins. A handful of big-match players took the stage and chuffed. We felt this would be a good night to chase and that it would be easy to chase. The pitch was slower than I expected, with little spin, and we bowled tight lines. We had a couple of catchers on the leg side and made a few of judgments on a sluggish wicket with varying bounce. Certainly desperate. The guys performed admirably against South Africa. We have an elderly population, yet everyone enjoys themselves.
“I was pleased to keep them to 240 – anything under 300, really.” I was one of those guys with fluttering hearts, but Head takes the game on, Marnus… I believe the selectors supported him despite his damaged hand. It was a major gamble that paid off. How entertaining is he to watch? It was an incredible experience to play, and the enthusiasm in India is unsurpassed. You just must go and win a World Cup. You can’t wait much longer. After two games, there was a noticeable difference. The openers were really aggressive, and everyone was completely on board. This is a year we will remember for a long time. This takes the cake.”
