ISLAMABAD (Today News ) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja accused the state on Thursday of committing a “crime” against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, claiming that the incarcerated party founder has suffered severe vision loss in his right eye as a result of alleged medical negligence.
The issue arose during hearings at the Supreme Court, when PTI lawyer Advocate Salman Safdar filed a report indicating that Imran Khan informed him that he had just 15% vision in his right eye.
Raja, speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court with Imran’s sister Aleema Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, said that the former premier’s deteriorating eye health was mistreated while incarcerated at Adiala Jail.
“A crime has been committed against Imran Khan, and this state has committed this crime,” Raja remarked, blaming former Adiala Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum for the alleged neglect.
He further stated that Imran had issued “special instructions” to commence legal actions against Anjum.
According to PTI officials, Imran began feeling eye discomfort in November and lost eyesight in his right eye by December.
Raja stated that despite repeated complaints, the former prime minister was simply given eye drops commonly used for irritation and was not sent to a hospital or evaluated by a certified ophthalmologist at the time.
He further claimed that Anjum was removed as jail superintendent on January 16 as the situation deteriorated, but that there was another delay until Dr Arif, a specialist from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), evaluated Imran in Adiala Jail on January 26.
Raja stated that after the assessment, the doctor suggested urgent hospitalization.
Imran was then sent to PIMS in Islamabad, where he got medical treatment, including an injection.
He referred to the diagnosis given in the report as “retinal occlusion.”
According to Raja, Imran has restored 10 to 15% eyesight in the damaged eye and is now able to sense light, but complete vision has not returned.
The PTI leader described the scenario as “painful and terrifying,” adding that the party and Imran’s family were ignorant of the exact medical issue impacting Imran’s vision.
He urged that the former prime minister be evaluated immediately by doctors trusted by his family and party.
“The current situation is unacceptable,” Raja stated, seeking prompt and transparent medical assistance.
