PALM BEACH, Fla. (Reuters) President Donald Trump has revealed plans to build a new “Trump-class” of battleships, larger, quicker, and “100 times more powerful” than any before, with the goal of establishing US military superiority, beginning with two ships as part of an enlarged “Golden Fleet.”

He claimed the project will eventually extend to include 20 to 25 more boats.

According to US Navy Secretary John Phelan, the projected build-out of warships would result in “more tonnage and firepower under construction than at any time in history,” with components being constructed in every US state.

He stated that the battleships would not only have the “biggest guns” ever carried by a US vessel, but would also carry nuclear-armed, sea-launched cruise missiles. The first of the new battleships will be named the USS Defiant.

In addition to the new battleship class, the Golden Fleet plans to enhance the number of other types of warships, including a smaller, more agile frigate class already planned by the US Navy, Trump added.
