ISLAMABAD :– The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Friday that it was functioning within constitutional bounds and not following anyone’s orders.

The commission maintained that it carried out its responsibilities independently and without bias, and that the benches appointed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja had resolved hundreds of cases.

It asserted, citing examples of its programmes, that it successfully held elections for 48 Senate seats, 19 National Assembly seats, and 40 Provincial Assembly seats, and that it was currently preparing to hold elections for 65 National Assembly seats.

It said that the local government elections in Sindh and Balochistan were conducted smoothly. “The procedure of delimitation for general elections has been finished,” the statement said.
