LAHORE– The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday halted the Electoral Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruling that denotified members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from Punjab.
The judgement is the latest victory for the previous governing party.
Judge Shahid Karim of the LHC delivered the decision on a case filed by PTI legislators. On March 7, he has also requested responses from the ECP and National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf, among others.
The legislators, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, had filed a high court complaint against the NA speaker and the electoral board for accepting their resignations, which were tendered in April after Imran Khan’s ousting as prime minister through a no-confidence vote.
