On Monday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified Ali Amin Gandapur, the Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, and his brother, Umar Amin Gandapur, for violating the code of conduct in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) local government elections.
The commission has deemed Umar Amin Gandapur unqualified for the position of mayor of Dera city and has prevented him from campaigning in the area, according to reports.
ECP, on the other side, has lifted Ali Amin Gandapur’s travel ban to Dera Ismail Khan.
ECP had already issued a notice to Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s brother Zia-ur-Rehman, the Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), for violating the electoral code of conduct in the KP LG polls.
The second round of local body elections in KP, which was due to take place on March 27, was postponed by the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
The court noted during the hearing at the Abbottabad registry that heavy snowfall had made it difficult for people to vote. The judge ordered the district authority to reschedule the local body elections after Ramadan.
